Who we are
Trussell is the data controller for the personal data you provide when responding to this Call for Evidence.

Why we collect your information
We collect your personal data to:
- contact you about your submission
- receive and review your submission to the Call for Evidence
- understand your views and experiences
- support evidence-based policy and advocacy work
- share relevant submissions with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) running this inquiry
This helps us contribute to research and policy discussions on the issue being examined.
Our lawful basis
We process your personal data because it is in our legitimate interests to:
- gather evidence to inform our work
- support public policy engagement
- contribute to democratic debate
We have balanced these interests against your rights and do not believe this use of your data will cause harm.
What data we collect
We may collect:
- your name and contact details (optional)
- your organisation (if relevant)
- your responses and any supporting information
- any personal experiences you choose to share
Please avoid including information that identifies other people.
Who we share your data with
We will produce a report to share with the APPG. We will remove basic identifying information about you before sharing. Where the APPG requests more details, we may share your submission in full.
APPGs are informal cross-party groups made up of MPs and peers. They carry out inquiries and gather evidence from individuals and organisations.
The APPG will act as a separate data controller for your data. This means they are responsible for how they use your information once it is shared.
Under Parliamentary rules, APPGs operate independently and may publish evidence or use it in reports.
We strongly recommend you do not include information you would not want to be shared more widely.
International transfers
Your data will not be transferred outside the UK unless necessary safeguards are in place.
How long we keep your data
We will keep your data only for as long as needed to:
- manage this Call for Evidence
- support related policy and advocacy work
We will then securely delete your information or anonymise it.
Your rights
Under data protection law, you have the right to:
- access your personal data
- correct inaccurate data
- ask us to delete your data
- restrict or object to how we use your data
- request a copy of your data
You also have the right to complain including to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) where you are unhappy with our response. To exercise your rights or to make a complaint, please contact privacy@trussell.org.uk.
Providing your data
We ask for your name and contact information in case we need to contact you about your submission. You are under no obligation to provide any further identifiable personal information, for example, about your personal experiences. Please do not include identifiable information about others in your submission.
If you do not provide a submission, we will not be able to consider your evidence as part of our analysis.
