Become a referral organisation
If your organisation supports people who find themselves in need of emergency food, you could become a referral partner.
Food banks in the Trussell community work with local organisations to identify people in need of emergency food. Referrals are vital to help people access the services they need, as well as ensuring they have wider support to address the root causes of hardship in their lives.
How food voucher referrals work
Food banks in our community operate a voucher model, which means people need to be referred for a food voucher before they can get emergency food. Vouchers are distributed and verified by referral partners.
As part of this process, referral organisations should also ensure that appropriate support to overcome the drivers of hardship is in place. Food banks offer further signposting and support to ensure people have access to relevant services and organisations to help them change the circumstances that led to hunger, and break cycles of poverty.
